I own an 84' Bronco 351. And I have some electrical problems that could use some answers. First off I'm in England with the USAF, the previous owners have done some mods to the eletrical systems. The alternator has been replaced, size unknown. And it has the original external voltage regulator. Both of those has no more power than what the battery is giving. I've tried shorting out the regulator to max out the output but no change. My question is, is it possible to do away with the regulator and replace the alternator with an internal regulator? The truck runs with some problems i.e. spitting and sputering with all the lights and other eletronics coming on when ever they feel like it. Plus it doesn't like to do much of anything but idle. If I place it in gear or turn the wheel it dies. Not sure if that has anything to do with the power issue.

Many Thanks

Justin

Sure you can change the alternator. The best one Ford produced is the 3G. Here is one of the best sites on the 3G alternator. You can get one from a junk yard or buy one from this site. I got one from a junk yard but I also bought parts and rebuilt it, ex. new brushes, new internal regulator, new bearings. for your year truck, you will need the long ear version of the alternator, that will make sense when yu see the pictures or look http://www.supermotors.org/mygarage/vehicl...tion.php?id=212

Good luck,

:)>-
