When I have the man. hubs in the unlock position, and when i turn the steering wheel, the 2 front tires started to lock up. I figured out that the 4x4 floor shift was getting stuck inbetween 2 and 4 wheel drive. Some sort of adjustment needed to be done but i think there were some bushings that needed to be replaced. Does anyone know of anything like this or the exact thing im talkin about so I can get parts? Thanks

If your hubs have actually released (sometimes they will need to "un load" before un locking) and the hubs are not sticking (too thick of a grease/ or rust)

You should check to see if your axle u joints are starting to seize before tearing into a possible shifter problem..

Could that really be it? I would have to adjust the shifter connected to the tranny ect. b/c the fornt u-joints could be seizing? NOw my ques is how do I know if the u-joints are seized? Also, for some trail and snow use, should I upgrade to mile markers or warn hubs?

I guess my reply could have been a little clearer...

I was just suggesting alternative problems that may cause the

"lock-up" condition you are describing... to me it sounds like either the hubs aren't fully disengaging or that the u-joints may be causing the problem.

If your hubs are fully disengaged and your axle u-joints are in good shape, it shouldn't matter where the shifter is, you should not have binding at the wheel with the hubs unlocked.

Sorry for the confusion....

To check your axle u-joints;

lock your hubs, jack up the front of the truck (please use axle stands...)

turn the steering wheel to full lock in either direction.

Rotate the tire/wheel. If you feel "drag" or binding at a particular place during the rotation, make a mark on a u-joint cap that you can see, continue rotating the wheel. if you feel drag or bind at the same place during the next rotation, your u-joint is showing its age. ( make sure that its not brake drag you feel)

If you have the factory Ford (Warn built) hubs in your truck now, the only "up grade" that I would recommend would be to find a set of Spicer hubs from a 66-79 Ford or equivalent year of any mfg...

In my opinion, you won't find a stronger locking hub unless you use a full time block off plate. If you worry about breaking axles, then yes, you should upgrade to the newer style Warn, Selectro, or Mile Marker hubs.

Ok when I get some time i'll so that. I don know that before I made the adjustment to the tranny bushings with the shifter rod linkage, that the front wheels would **** like a "Bucking Bronco"( haha). Whatcha think?
