When I put my 93 Bronco in 4X4 - pulling the lever on the floor board - is there anything specific I have to do ? New to the truck and the previous owner said I have locking hubcaps. Also, I have heard that you have to back up when coming out of 4X4 to disengage the wheels. Is that true?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Well if it has manual locking hubs on the front wheels then you must first get out and turn the **** to the lock position then you must pull the lever on the floor to the 4X4 position . Some say you have to back up and some say you dont I know the new trucks you do not have too on my 95 you can feel the front moving cause theres a little vibration till I back up then its gone . If you have auto locking hubs on the front then it will say like 4X4 on the cap or something like that and there will be no **** if they are auto locking hubs you just pull the lever up to 4X4 and off you go but with auto,s you must back up to disengage the hubs . Hope that helps . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thanks, my hubs do have "Automatic 4X4" on them and I cannot move them. Great, I will back up next time, I drove it quite a ways after I used 4 wheel drive yesterday. Does that cause any damage to the vehicle if you forget to backup?

I know I have to back up with my bronco to disengage the 4x4 and i have manual locking hubs. And it really wont cause any damage unless you contiue driving on asphalt or concrete with the 4x4 engaged and make turns. In the snow it doesnt really make a difference you can drive with your 4x4 locked in as long as the road is snow covered and I have noticed that if you dont have abs in the snow having it in 4x4 makes a world of difference with stopping.
