4x4 problems

i've got a 95 xlt with 150,000 miles and push button 4x4. the problem i seem to be having is when i push the button to activate the 4 wheel drive it doesnt want to go to 4x4 . any thoughts would be appreciated

Does the light come on? If not do you have auto hubs? If it does and you do have autos thats where id put the blame.

You need to determine where the problem is. Without moving the truck, put it in 4x4. With enginre off and brakes on crawl under an see if you can turn the front shaft by hand. If it turns then you probably have a shift motor problem. If it doesn't turn then the problem is probably in the hubs.

common problem, shift motor mounted on the back of the t-case is probably bad. before flat out replacing it, give the solenoid (the round canister looking thingy) a loving tap with a hammer. sometimes it gets stuck and wont activate the shift mechanism. if that dont work, get replacing
