If you use your bronco for daily driving most of the time 4x4 high is good enough for any situation that you encounter. Every know and then you get yourself into a situation where 4x4 high just isnt enough torque. I bought a 1989 Bronco custom with a 5.0 automatic and its great. The only thing that doesnt work is the 4x4 low. The guy that i bought it from said that the 4x4 low worked when he had it it was always a little sticky though. I have never once had the 4x4 low work. I have tried several times to get it to go in. I even tried shutting the truck off and puttin git in 4 low. It just doesnt go in. Any Ideas? Note the transfer case lever doesnt ever make it past 4 high in the postion guide. Also i notice that the boot around the lever is torn up a little bit.

The boot shouldn't have anything to do with it, just old.

Try in gear and roll slightly on flat surface forward for 1 foot then back into nutral real quick, as the pressure is off everything try to push it in to Lo just as you get into nutral. Try reverse to nutral. The back and forth action or rocking action can help get it in gear when everything gets releaved. Have you drained the fluid to see if there is any metal in it? Some thick gear oil (90/140) can make it tough to change gears.
