For a temporary fix, you can remove the front driveshaft to have rear-wheel drive only. The t-case may still be in 4x4, but the front hubs will not engage and you won't risk breaking any parts by driving on pavement. If you look at the driver's-side of the t-case, you should see the shift selector indicator to tell if it's in 2-HI, N, 4Hi or 4Lo. It may be possible to manually select your range this way. If you have the electric or push button shift t-case, you should see a lighted "4X4" on your dash when you push the button. If the light comes on and blinks or does not come on, you may have a switch or relay problem. If that works but the t-case doesn't fo into 4WD, then the motor is bad or that's what was removed. (I posted a link to troubleshoot this system in the "How-To/Tech" forum, but it didn't work for me the other day)
