A 69-70 2V or 4V Windsor is best, a 4V having 10.5:1 compression or a 2V, 9.5:1. Before you swap, see if the 351 has a 3 bolt harmonic bal-ancer. If it has a 4 bolt, you

What was the context of the statement? How about a link to it so we can see what they were suggesting that for. Engines prior to 1970 had the 3 bolt pattern and from 70 on they had the 4 bolt pattern.

in context of swaping for a 351W in early broncos

http://www.jamesduff.com/eb/conversion.html is the link check it out.
I believe what they are trying to convey is that they consider the 69 and 70 Widsors to be the best engine to use for the swap. That is because 67 to 74 are considered to be the best castings for rebuilding. The blocks from 75 - 84 were considerd to be poor quality castings, and then from 85 up the quality improved again. The reason they consider the 69 - 70 to be the best engines to use, I believe, is that those engines had the best stock compression ratio due to the head design. The reason they say to swap from a 4 bolt to a 3 bolt balancer is to allow you to reuse your 3 bolt pully if you had an older 289 or 302 before the swap.

Since you have a 73 Bronco you probably have a 4 bolt pully on the old engine so if that is the case, NO you don't need to change the balancer.

Good luck,

:)>-

Thanks for the help but I guess I forgot to mention the most important thing! /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> The Windsor that I have is out of a 1969 Torino and i have a four bolt balancer on it. They came factory with a three bolt so is this going to make a bit of difference in the balancing of my engine?

No mater which one you use, the balancer as well as the pully should be on when having the engine balanced. The choice of 3 bolt or 4 bolt depends on what bolt pattern you have on the pully you are going to use or vice versa. If you don't have them both on when balancing, you may have some vibration problems when it's all together.
