I have a 93 bronco with a 302 5.0. It is sort of underpowered.

When it comes time for an engine change, how hard would it be for me to mount like a 351 winsor on there? What else would I need to change?

wow thats terrible advice lol from what i understand they are the same block so the motor mounts should line up i know there is enough space under the hood um thats about the extent of my knowledge.im sure it is just a take out and put in type deal also i would get a computer for a 351 with the motor and i think the bell housings are the same so no worries on the transmission, i might not be right on somethings but the guys on here will correct me and take care of any of your questions so dont be afraid to ask. good luck bud.

You may want to consider rebuilding what you got, that way you can build it to your tastes, retain everything you have, pick your parts and know that its done right. I think on the 351, you may need alt. and p.s. brackets and 351 dizzy, unless you find a complete used donor, then it maybe a crap shoot to see how long that will last until that may need rebuilding.

Thanks guys.

So I also heard that the 5.8 and the 5.0 get around the same gas milage.

Because the 5.0 is underpowered and it takes more to move it.

Do you think this is true?

I own both the 5.0 is not underpowered for normal use. My 5.8 is cherry my 5.0 is old beaten and still will smoke my 5.8 lol. Maybe your motor needs a rebuild but the 5.0 is fine. I think the gas mileage is close but they are basically the same engine except the 351 has more deck height to it. the heads will even bolt up but need a different size bolt. why do you feel it is underpowered? I mean I can smoke the tires on mine all day but my 5.8 wont I think it must be gearing though.

wow i think there is somethin wrong with your 5.8 mine will burn the tires through 2nd gear just punchin it and ive beat all kind of 5.0 do u have a 5.0 in a truck or somethin.and yes the 5.0 are a little underpowered except in a 1986 f150 those were freakin boss.

Mine are both in broncos the 302 is mean my 5.8 has plenty of pull and acceleration but she dont like to spin tires much at all. the 5.8 runs great i mean quite with no erratic idle, no codes or loss of power that I have ever noticed. ive hauled cars and other trucks behind my 5.0 and I never had a problem with power unless I am miss understanding what power we are talking here. I mean if its a speed you want not many stock trucks are gonna give you anything spectacular except the lightning or Chevy SS.

That said, I am already getting a new 5.0 for my truck. Google FordMotorSports an go to Fords website, and look at their crate motors. I'm about to buy a new 5.0 at 340hp and 310tq..big improvement.

Where is it underpowered? I mean it has 15 less horsepower than the 5.8 and torque I believe is 35lbs different.
If its only that much difference in ratings, you can still build it the way you want to and reach the 5.8 numbers and beyond.

The term 'underpowered' can be interpreted so many ways. If it can move a vehicle for everyday use then its fine. It ain't like we're driving these things 1/4 mile at a time. (maybe some of us do) :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

well no of this is helpful to florida redneck.his question wasnt which has more power but if it was possible to put a 351 in the spot of his 302 and what else he would need to do to make that happen.maybe he already has a brand new 351 maybe he just wants to be able to say he has a 351.either way we need to help him out with his original question.

True I misread the conversation I guess and thought he asked what was a better motor to use. If just looking to swap them out they are the same block no need for any motor mount mods or anything. Would you be staying EFI or going carbed? The swap is not to bad but your lower intake will not work as the heads are different. Are you looking to get a complete motor or are you building one? So depending on your wants and budget the sky is the limit. Just remember whatever you decide both motors have a lot of options to improve them.
