"302 that isnt running correctly at all"

1st) As in what exactly...is it driveable..?

Did this just start..or has it been runn'n poorly since you bought it..?

Exactly what lead you to believe it's the timing..?

2nd) Put your #1 piston on compression stroke with the piston at it's highest point.

Now.., look at your timing pointer & mark...it should be at "0" or a few degrees above.

THE REASON... this will tell you if the timing chain went south....or if the dizzy was stabbed in a few (or several) teeth off.

Check the dizzy by pull'n the cap & see if rotor is pointing to #1 spark plug contact.

The more info you supply.., the better advice you'll get.

Your truck came with a decal (tune-up specs) under hood...it may be painted over..(or gone completely)

Go to your local lib. they have books & all the info. you'll need related to that eng.

HTH
