I recently bought a 1973 Ford Bronco. When I picked the truck up it ran fine the whole way home. I parked it and a few hours later went to start it up and it won't turn over. I have had battery checked, starter checked. Replace the ignition coil, and solenoid. Still not getting the engine to turn over. It starts but doesn't fire. I have checked the spark plug wires, its getting a spark so I am guessing maybe it is having issues getting fuel. Is there something I could do to check this? I have read some things about spraying starter fluid into carb? Just not sure what to try next. Would appreciate any help. Thanks

Hi PJ., welcome...!

You're saying it backwards but the "point" is there. ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

"I have read some things about spraying starter fluid into carb?"

This is fine & a good test. (it will run a bit then quit)

You can also (key off) move the throttle by hand while look'n down the carb. You should see fuel squirting & runn'n down into the intake manifold.

If not, this would indicate there's no fuel in carb. and/or accel. pump is not working.

Future ref.

Turn over = spin or cranks

Starts = fires or begins to run

It does sound like a lack of fuel. Poss. causes are;

plugged carb. jet and/or needle & seat

plugged fuel lines or filter

fuel slector on wrong tank or empty tank

failed fuel pump (will show leakage out the bottom of pump)

plugged fuel pick-up tube/strainer in tank (prob. least likely)

Let us know what you find..... >:D< <'>

I found that no fuel was getting past the fuel pump, I was able to get that replaced last night. However car will now start and stay running as long as foot is on the gas. As soon as I let off it dies out on me. Maybe carb needs cleaning? Idle problems? Any adjustments I should make?

Do you know if it's the stock two barrel carb..?

Could be the two screws on the lower front need adj. A starting point would be 2 1/2 turns out.

If that doesn't work... the carb idle circuit could be plugged.

When you picked the rig up... did it idle...?

Tming could be an issue as well.

Its a new edelbrock carb. I see the two screws in the front. When I picked it up it stalled on me twice on the way home, both times when I released the gas.

That's great PJ.,

We got lucky.... however, you'll likely need us again., :-B

Meaning you will be better served putting all you know about your new rig in your signature .., (see mine below) for obvious reasons.

Good luck, enjoy your rig, :D/

B
