  1. I first want to thank those of you who offered help,but I ve decided to re-build the diff. with new ring and pinion,and carrior bearings and whatever else it needs. Gonna cost about $400.00,but at least now all rear end will be new or re-built.New axils,all new seals,new gears,rebuilt driveshaft,cost me about $700.00 total,but my old horse is 95 % showroom cond. and I aim to keep her that way. Beats the heck out of monthly payments. Will someday try to scan and post a few pics so all can see what a cherry 89 looks like. Hope all you Fathers had a great Fathers Day,Mine was special,four of my childrenand thier wives and kids gave me a wonderfull day. Thanx again BJ
  2. Anyone knoe where I can either get a 355 rear end diff.,or a rebuild kit with ring and pinion gears incl ? [lease give prices . Also,how do one get the catalog from Bronco Graveyard ???thanx,BJ

Replaced the axel and new outer bearings,but the howling is still there. must be the pinion bearings,but there is almost no play in the shaft. does anyone know if this could be something else,like driveshaft out of wack,or would bad u joints cause the howl ? if it is the pinion bearings,where is a good place to buy,is there a kit,and what about a swap,anyone got a rear end hanging around ????need some help on this guys ! BJ
  5. Hello there. You might want to try Berrymans B 12 fuel inj. cleaner. The can says you can use it to flush motor. $5 is about the cost. I ve used it twice and it cleans superior to any kero.mixture,and drains almost completely out,not like kero.which may cause tou to change oil and filters a few times. BJ
  6. fINALLY GOT TO PULLING AXELS TO SEE WHAT CAUSED THE HOWLING IN THE REAR END AND LO AND BEHOLD IT WASENT THE BEARINGS OR ANYTHING IN THE REAR END,IT WAS THE AXEL. THERE WAS A 1 INCH GROOVE WHERE THE BEARINGSEATS ON THE AXEL.WHY THE BEARING DIDN T DESTRUCT IS BEYOND ME,AND WHY THE GROOVE I HAVE NO IDEA. anyone OUT THERE HAVE THIS PROBLEM,and if so,is there something else I should look for. the groove was at the outer bearing,and has to be at least 2 to 3 hundredth inch worn. having fun now trying to find axel for r. side. this is short one. 89,fs,4x,locking or lim.slp rear.anyone got one lying around ?   9. I HAVE AUTO TRANS. ADDED EXTRA LEAF SPRING 3 YEARS AGO. NO DIFF. WORK DONE. HOWL STARTS AT ABOUT 25 MPH AND GETS STRONGER THE FASTER I GO.NOT LOUDER,BUT MORE INTENSE. THERE IS NO VIBRATION,AND IT DOESN T SEEM TO BE GETTING WORSE. WEAVING DOESN T CHANGE HOWL. KIND OF SOUNDS LIKE A HAIRDRYEROR A VACCUME CLEANER,AND THE NOISE GOES UP AND DOWN AS SPEED GOES UP AND DOWN THE MORE LOAD,THE MORE INTENSE.WHADDA YA THINK ????

  12. BEFORE I START TO DISMANTLE THINGS,MY HORSE IS GETTING A LOUD HOWL WHEN DRIVING. ITS COMMING FROM THE REAR END,AND HAPPENS ONLY WHEN I M GIVING IT GAS. IF I LET OFF THE PEDAL,HOWLING STOPS. PUT A JUG OF LUCAS IN REAR END,AND UNIVERSAL JOINTS SEEM TIGHT. ANYONE EVER HAVE THIS PROBLEM ? DON T WANT TO PULL AXELS IFIN I DON T HAVE TOO,BUT DON T WANT DAMAGE IF I CAN FIX THINGS BEFORECOULD IT BE THE DRIVESHAFT?HELP !
  13. HI THERE AND WELCOME ! FIRST OF ALL CHECK TO SEE IF IT IS MOTOR OIL. TRANSMISSION FLUID CAN LOOK LIKE ENGINE OIL ESPECIALLY IF IT PICKS UP DIRT AND GREASE. NOW CHECK TO SEE IF 1. LEAKS AROUND VALVE COVERS,2. LEAKS AROUND OIL PAN,OIL FILTER,FRONT TIMING COVER,WATER PUMP AREA. THESE ARE THE MOST LIKELY LEAK SPOTS. NOW COMES THE BAD NEWS,IT COULD BE YOUR REAR MAIN SEAL WHICH IS COSTLY TO REPAIR. DOES IT LEAK WHEN SITTING ? WIPE THE OIL WHERE YOU SEE IT,AND AFTER NOT DRIVING FOR A WHILE,CHECK TO SEE IF THERE IS OIL. IF NOT THEN THE LEAK IS HAPPENING WHEN UNDER LOAD. AS FAR AS THE WHIRRING NOISE,THATS A DIFFERENT STORY,DOES IT DO IT ONLY WHEN DRIVING,OR AT IDLE TOO? DO YOU HAVE A AUTOMATIC OR STICK ?. . AND AS A LAST DUMB THOUGHT,CHECT TO SEE IF YOUR DRAIN PLUG IS TIGHT. TRY TO WIPE OFF ALL SIGNS OF LEAK SO THE NEXT TIME YOU LOOK,YOU CAN TRACK THE LEAK. GOOD LUCK,GET BACK WITH MORE INFO. BJ

TRY ADDING 50 WEIGHT KENDALL OIL,AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FILTER THAT DOSEN T ALLOW OIL TO FLOW BACK,ON ME 351 ITS A FLA 1,AND ALSO ON MY 351,THE OIL SENDER IS JUST NEXT TO THE FILTER,REPLACE I QT. OF OIL WITH LUCAS OIL ADDITIVE,AND ALONG WITH THE NO FLO BACK FILTER AND THE 50 WT. OIL,PRESSURE WILL BE HIGHER. THE SENDER IS ABOUT $5 AT AUTOZONE/ GOOD LUCK BJ

YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK THE FUSEABLE LINKS FOUND NEXT TO YOUR BATTERY.I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ONCE .CHECK THE THREE yellow WIRES THAT GO INTO ONE THAT RUN TO THE + SIDE OF STARTER SWITCH,THERE ARE THREE LINKS,.THESE WIRES RUN AROUND THE FRONT OF THE GRILL AND END UP CONTROLING YOUR FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM.
