1970 Sport Bronco The Disassembly and Frame Preparation...As with all restoration projects I began by stripping the truck to the ground and removing all of the factory shock mounts making room for SuperFlex© front and rear shock hoops. Investigating the frame I found that it was perfectly square and had little rust to speak of. Unfortunately I didn't get any shots of the body removal but from the reassembly photos later in this feature you will be able to see how, by myself I achieved this using a tree with a hefty tree and come-along cable puller on one end and an engine hoist on the other. The radius arm mounts were then moved back 8" to accommodate the custom radius arms; you can see one of them leaning against the left front tire in the top left picture above. Using Rancho 80-96 Ford Bronco extended IFS arms I securely welded 79 F150 C-cups in place, taking care to include 7 degrees of caster allowing the use of rubber radius arm bushings and to allow the springs bases to sit level. Once the shock hoops were installed everything was then completely sand blasted and prepared for a coating of POR15, the latest in industrial strength rust preventative coatings. In all 3 coats were applied for the ultimate in protection. I must warn you to wear latex gloves when using POR15 since it will not come off your hands for up to a week... it is amazing how strong it is. I also recommend that if you plan on storing a half used can, place a plastic bag between the can and lid otherwise the lid won't come off without a fight if at all.
