I was wondering if anyone has ever done a front and rear coil-over conversion. I've got a 77' Ford Money-Pit that I've been working on, I haven't done anything major to it yet simply because I lack the money. I was talking to my brother's neighbor a few days ago and he said that I might consider converting to coil-over, this only the second vehicle I've had and the only one I've had that I've had to actually work on, doing things other than changing oil and replacing the serpintine belt, so i'm learning as I go. If anyone could provide some insight I would appreciate it. I was also trying to find out how far from the ground my bronco would've sat stock. I measured from the frame, and the front sits 20" off the ground, and only 16 3/4" in the back (the leaf springs are completly shot). Thanks, Andy.

I learned what the purpose of ABS was yesterday and how bad my susension really was. I was coming u on a green light looked down at my radio looked up a few seconds later and it was red. i had about thirty yards to stop. I hit the brakes pretty hard, fish-tailed and tiped over halfway in the street and halfway into the ditch. I ***** up my door, rocker pannel, top and front fender, pretty good, but I did walk away with only one bruse on my knee and it still runs. VIVA EL BRONCO.

WOW all in 2 days time! You got me beat thats for sure!

Got a roll bar? If not add one fast.

Do you have Power brakes? If not get a booster or better yet add a hydroboost set up. You can get a used set up from a 85 Astro Van or 2000 Super Duty and others.

Stay away from the coil overs unless you want to spend all summer designing the link bars and spening tons of cash. The best bet is to replace the rear leafs with new ones. This will be a huge difference in ride and control (no more fishy rear). At this point you need to know if you want a lift. You need to measure from the top of the axle to the bottom of the frame rail to know the height. Going from the ground does't help as most tires are different in size and airpressure. If you want a 3.5" lift which is most common get the front coils ($120) and rear leafs are ($350) from http://cageoffroad.com/, they have the goods! And if you want wheel travel (sounds like you do if you're talking coil overs) they have an awesome extended radius arm with a massive heim joint. Thats what I run...

If there's a (non-military) vehicle that can take more than one of these broncos I'd like to see it. All i had to do was air up the fron't tire and it was driving again. I just have to dukes-of-hazzard it every time I'm entering and exiting the drivers side.

I thought that Cage started selling their equipment through vendors only and no direct sales? If that is still the case, I would recommend that you get a set of either Wild Horses or BC rear leaf springs and a set of BC fronts. Very flexy and nice ride to boot. Like Broncoholics said, the coil over is a pain in the **** to design, install & then set up correctly. The only true advantage to a coil over design is for competition or for the "WOW" factor you can get at the local mall. A good set of leafs will make a world of difference in the ride and handeling.
