I have a 94 bronco that I have done a lot of work to, the previous owner ignored the oil leak and just about everything else. I have replaced a lot and can't figure out if it's worth putting in a new engine and tranny. I am very good working on engines but I have never rebuilt one nor do I have all the tools needed. I have never done much with a tranny other than a new filter and new pan gasket. Her undercarriage is pretty rusted. I love driving her but not sure if it's worth putting in that much money or if I should just seek it. Any ideas would help!!

Yo Babs,

Many of us, including my much better-half and I have discussed this too.  We nought our 96 new and it has never left us stranded.  But rust issues have been expensive.  I no longer can repair much do to surgeries other than checking fluids so rust repairs are expensive, such as replacing radiator core support, leaf spring shackles, 1/4 panel arch panels, & addressing  tailgate rust.

It has minor rear main seal and pump gasket leaks.  And it has it's original water pump, engine, transmission, xfer case, etc.  So looking forward, we can figure on more costs.  But, we love it!  It is comfortable to drive, still looks great and we don't want to spend over $30k on a 4x4 F series w/4WD.  Or buy a used vehicle that wasn't maintained to our standards using Ford's severe duty schedule.

So it's up to you, on $ available to maintain it orpurchase another vehicle.

As for the engine;

Yo BABS!

YW!

One thing, for electrical parts ALWAYS try to buy Motorcraft brand.

A good source is Amazon. I try to get the Ford Motorcraft parts via AMAZON; they are VG at delvy and esp pricing; I bought a $150.00 Motorcraft DPFE Sensor for $50.00 with free shipping and no sales tax; Local dealers wanted 150.0 + sales tax

same price & discount for an Idle Air Control (IAC).

Fix her part by part. Only tackle small projects. Idk about you but I took on the engine and trans all at once and became over whelm. Both were locally rebuilt motor was 3000 and trans was 1900. But now I focus on small things. I put a lift on and coated the frame as I did it. Took my time but well worth it now.
