Hey,

Im planing on pulling the engine out of my 86 XLT in the near future to do a rebuild and replace the top end components with the Edelbrock Top End Performer Kit. Ive never rebuilt an engine before, I'm wondering will I need to buy a rebuild kit since I'm going to installing the top end kit?

Would I be better off just piecing together a few new seals rather then purchasing a rebuild kit?

Any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would suggest that you get a few books on rebuilding Ford engines.  You can find them at any good book store.  Rebuilding is more than just replacing seals.

Enjoy the trip

10-4 on the books Hot Rod press has several good ones on Ford only. Also check in your area for a really good machine shop get reviews from EVERYBODY you know. I live around Tallahassee Fl. and have to go to south Ga. around 80 miles one way because too much bad has happened since the best shop here closed.
