Hey folks! I want to completely replace the OEM column in my 92. I hate how close it is to me and, from what I've read, many of the components can prove to be problematic over time. My key is already sloppy, I can turn the ignition without a key, and the wheel lock is fussy. The shifter is wobbly, and the O/D indicator doesn't work. So, I'd rather swap it out for a tilt, telescoping column from ididit.

So my question is: Does anyone know the length of the column from the top of the housing to the bottom of the output shaft?

Can anyone help me out with this info? Thanks!

Yo,

I have not heard of this swap in any 92 to 96 Bronco.

For the heck of it, do you have the:

tilt wheel or non- tilt?

If you have another vehicle to use, suggest removing column and measure using this:

Parts Break-Out Diagram in 91-96 Tilt; "...is used in just about everything Ford made from ~'91-up. The only difference is tilt or not. Everything else bolts on (airbag, brake/shift interlock, vacuum brake release, etc..." by Ford via Steve

http://www.supermotors.net/vehicles/registry/media/573959

Or send them the diagram and let them tell you where to measure. They are like Bergensen, they market their products, but the tech support SUCKS. Bergensen send sells shafts, but only shows 92-96 F Series and will not say that they fit Broncos.

Yo, forgot this, and it shows how to remove column whereas in my previous reply I showed justbparts diagram.

http://www.diesel-dave.com/vehic/manual/stj/stjleft.htm

Same as most earlier years especially 92-96, except for: OBD II in 96; 4WABS (93-96); RABS (87-92); Air Bag (94-96); 3 ***** Automatic Locking Hubs (Built from May 95 through 96); Spark Plug Wire Routing & Firing Order (The firing order for 1987-1993 5.0Ls is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. The firing order for 1994- 96 5.0Ls & all 5.8Ls is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.); R134a in 94-96;

2-piece Spindle Rolling Diaphragm Seal (RDS) used on 5/95 to 96 Broncos & F Series 1/2-ton 4WD;

and a few other items that I still need to research such as Mass Air Flow in 95 5.8 California models and in all 96s, other years used Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP).

Section 11-04: Steering Column

CAUTION: Do not remove the steering column, steering wheel (3600), steering wheel pad horn switch (13A805) and air bag module as an assembly from the vehicle unless the column is locked to prevent rotation. Lower end of steering shaft should be wired to prevent the steering wheel from being rotated.
