Ok, my stupid self installed a new motor, but left the wires in front of the window rather than behind it. SO, when the window went down, it pulled the UP wire out of the connector. Is there ANY way short of breaking the window or cutting a hole in the tailgate to get access the wires? Supposed to take it to the mechanic next week and he can't store it under cover while its there...

Well, you could try disconnecting the widow from the bracket that it attaches to and sliding the window up to get at the wires.  Some windows are riveted to the lift Channel, in that case you would have to remove the rivets.  Mine has 4 small bolts instead of rivets.

Here is a page from the LMC Truck catalog so you can see what I'm talking about. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/fd/full.aspx?Page=23

Yo,

It happens, to the long time mechanics as well.

Glass Removal from a Junk Yard Bronco; "...Tools you will need, 12v-18v cordless drill, Wire Strippers. What i did was remove the access panel . Find the motor leads ( they should be red and yellow). Strip the end of the leads near the bottom of the tailgate (give yourself as much slack as possible). remove the battery from the drill. touch the motor leads to the battery and listen for movement. If you don't hear something at first try the wires the opposite way. Let the glass come down about half way. Than remove the nuts holding the glass. remove glass and install in your Bronco..."

Glass Replacement; "...If the motor runs but doesn't move the glass, push the glass up for access. The glass is strong enough to support its own weight fully extended, but no extra weight..." miesk5 note, make sure the tailgate is resting DOWN fully (horizontally) by pushing or sitting on it before pulling glass out by hand (or closing driver side Latch by hand and using Key sw or driver's Dash switch to energize motor) because the TG's Support cables need to fully stretched. I use a standard height saw horse with a blanket folded to support da glass & sliding saw horse under da glass. To extend the glass, I close the driver's side latch's jaws on side of tailgate, I use a ***** driver to close the jaws, so that the glass can be moved by TG Key Switch or Dash Switch to work on internals; when done & window is retracted within the TG, use the Handle to release the jaws & close the TG; & in his #7; "If the motor doesn't run, remove the 4 nuts (2 on each side - see below) that hold the regulator tracks to the glass brackets. Bend the regulator arms down slightly to pull the studs out of the brackets, and then push the glass up. Remember to FULLY lower the glass before lifting or closing the t/g...

The nuts for the glass track are under this fixed support, but the bolts for the regulator will be accessible after the glass is removed.

The R nuts are covered by the structure, so a ratcheting boxend is the easiest tool to get at them. Alternatively, this hole could be enlarged and another drilled above the other nut for socket access.

He has many pics in there so take time to go thru it.

Of course you know about the regulator arm danger as well as torsion bar.

Yo Fred,

This is at least the second time in past few days that I posted similar information right after you did. It is because when I see the op post a question, there is no reply show,... then I begin my long winded reply and after punching the "Post" icon, I see that you or Bob or Ron or Nelbur, etc. have already responded.

So, I am not piggy backing .. but awfully slow.

Al.

This is not an ego trip Al.  Any additional info for him is great and you have the best problem/trouble shooting index on the net.  Helping the guy with the question is the goal, right :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .  I only told him what he could do, you gave him a HOW TO.

Ok, the final solution was taking the aluminum trim panel off the back, drill a small access hole, pull the wiring out, ran longer wires to the main power supply, and rolled it up. What a mess....
