I have a 1986 Ford Bronco.

Recently the floor console won't open. It's not locked with the key, i tried that already.

Looks like the left "release button" isn't working anymore.

Can anyone help me to open the floorconsole (again)??

grtz

yo GRTZ,

Here are some comments on 80's era console that won't open;

Take a small screwdriver and pop the top of the lock off. Once you do that pull the broken metel tabs out, pull the springs out if it still wont open then you will have to find two small screwdrivers and put them down either side of the lock cylinder and pull the cylinder out. At that point there is nothing putting pressure on the arms that hold the lid closed and you should be able to open the center console lid.

Got it opened! Got my big self in between the dash and the console and and lifted the lid up far enough to see the plungers. I finally realized that the broken button on the left operates the right side plugger on the latch. Who would have thunk it. I used a scribe compress the plunger on the right and it popped right open.

Your right 79broncn I usually just take it to the dealer and bend over. But I figured it's just a little latch how hard can it be. by noslam in an 89 Bronco

There's a couple *** metal levers inside the latch and they break easily. I work for a small jewelry shop so I simply glued my broken one back together, made a mold and cast a new one out of brass.

just yanked on mine till it poped open. Then took the screws out of the u shaped ring part. Cant lock it know but I can atleast get in it.

Hmmm/ my 85 has a console that I had to renovate.Did not know it had a lock. None there. Now that I know this, I think I will install a lock. Why not? Need to hide some electronics. Thinks for bribing this up.

Now project number 2:

What holds the lock in place?

I don't see any screws or something like that....

yo GMN,

Great and thanks for coming back!

I don't know the lock is in place; someone else here w/an 80's console may know and offer the info.
