So here is my question, I have a brand new Ford 400 big block engine. And as of right now i have a 351 in my 82' Bronco, which is completely ruined.I was wondering if any of you guys would know if i could anyway fit it into my engine compartment and if the original tranny would even be compatable if not would could i do to fix that, would it be a fly wheel issue?

yo baker,

I assume you have a 400M engine

I know that Ford "continued to install the 351M in some early 80s model Broncos and both the 351M/400 in some of the F-250 and F-350 trucks until the last one was used in 1982"

That info as well as more background info on the 351M/400M engine family is @

What transmission is in the 82?

C6 automatic or a stick shift?

It is an automatic and yes i have a 400M I just dont know if it would fit because i know ford is very specific in what motors and fit into which bodies and i really dont want to take the whole 351 out then try and put the 400 into it and see that it wont fit.

Yo,

ok.

Hopefully someone else will be able to answer your Q.

Here is one article with some issues between forum members on the swap; http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/957711-351w-to-400m-engine-swap.html

EXCERPTS;

"... change frame towers (welding required?)...issues with exhaust, cooling, etc. and 400 is physically bigger than the 351w, not that you can't fit one in an 86 bronco, but it's not as easy as swapping one into a pre-80s....

I still will try to find some Ford info on this.

BTW, FYI
