Simple question which I cannot seem to find the answer to, what are the proper fluid levels for just a trans fluid and filter change and for a fluid/filter/convertor change on the E4OD?

I use the mark on the stick, but not sure that it is the correct one as the hold down tab faces the wrong direction. Auto parts have a variety of stories from 6 to 16 quarts. I purchased a dipstick from Jeff's, but have yet to purchase the strange size bit needed to drill out the transmission. Something I really don't want to do just yet, this is my daily driver and that seems like a out of truck operation.

I thought I asked this early on when I joined but do not see it listed? Two of my current code have to do with the trans, and it is time to drop the fluid again.

Thanks

If you have any questions about installing that setup, call Jeff's, they should be able to give you some details about the installation.  miesk5 may have the service book that can answer your fluid volume question.

Cork gaskets and elastomeric gaskets are not interchangeable. If you remove a cork gasket, replace it with a cork gasket. If you remove an elastomeric gasket, clean, inspect and reuse unless gasket is damaged. Be careful not to cut or bend elastomeric gasket.

I can't never "Like" a reply post, says I've reached my quota all the time.

Anyway thanks again for the info, I've never experienced any slipping or bad shifts but 2 of my codes were trans related. And not knowing if the dipstick I have is correct I could be dead on, or a quart or two off. It should be in the 6-7 range, I knew the 16 quarts was wrong, when I changed it the first time.

As for as the Jeff's dipstick install, it is a one piece unit. I would have to drive out the lower portion of the current 2-piece stick, then drill the hole to 25/32 or something like that, its listed on the tag. I have bits up to 1", but past 3/4 they are just standard sizes, plus this will be the first fluid drop since I received it.

Thanks again!

Well finally did the trans fluid change, my dipstick is 25 1/2" tip to edge of finger pull. I have right at 7 quarts and its just now hitting the cold mark, the first of 2 holes, than the crosshatch. The info that was shared stated 6.5 quarts, but that was right at the tip.

I used the crosshatch last change (assuming this stick came in the trans., 2 piece tube) and that would be another quart, right at 8. I did not drain the convertor

Yo RR,

see '92 302 E4OD Transmission dipstick tube? by C5aig at http://broncozone.com/topic/11833-92-302-e4od-transmission-dipstick-tube/?do=findComment&comment=60665

Someone in another Ford Forum had same length issue as you have; as compared to my 96's E4OD length measurements. he never responded to my Questions about the result.

In my last pic, you can see where I measured from Inside of finger pull

in first pic, overall length is 38.5" from outside of finger pull to tip

call Jeff's and ask about any other buyer inquires about length

Can you find one in a 93 yard queen?

Some full service yards can use the Hollander search and interchange guide to locat the tube & stick from other yards that are part of the Hollander system

Select All Parts

year, etc, then FORD TRUCK

or

Has Vehicle Pic

This is a Company name w/yard locations in various states

Also for obsolete parts by Ford Part Number long version

btw, the Ford PN that C5aid listed (FOTZ7A228C)is not shown anywhere by:

At least I'm not the only one with this issue. No luck at any of the scrap yards, if they have one its still with the trans and they won't let it go separate.

She must have like the new fluid, after sitting at turn light today behind 6 fools that didn't realize it wasn't working! I pulled back into the main lane, hit the throttle and she broke the tires loose. I had to reel her back in!

I measured tip to inside. I will check with these other places as well
