Braking issue on 74 Bronco

Recently purchased a 74 Bronco. In order to stop you have to apply a lot of pressure to brakes. Had a local shop replace master cylinder which they said was leaking, they also replaced front and rear wheel cylinders (not sure exactly what that was about) and they bled the lines and adjusted the shoes...

I still have to apply a lot of pressure to stop, not as much.

The shop guy said that is the way drum brakes work @#%%....

Any suggestions ?

Yep.., "BS"   I have the same rig (no power brakes) & it stops as good as my F150 with power brakes.

The brakes will "stop on a dime" when set-up correctly.

The drum lining needs to be clean, as well as the shoes. i.e. new cylinders won't help with contaminated linings.

The drums may need cleaning with solvent.

The shoes may be soaked/dampened with brake fluid. (possibly replaced)

The rubber brake hoses at ea. wheel should be inspected. Fluid should flow thru freely. (out the bleed hole)

What is your mechanical experience..?

All these issues are pretty easy to bring up to spec.

Your local auto parts store will have a manual for basic repairs with pics. This would help us be "on the same page" as it were.
