My 1992 bronco rear window won't go up or down,I removed the motor and it's good and the guy I bought the truck from must have removed the interlock safety switch because there isn't one, just an empty spot of where it was.So, I guess I'm looking for a bad wire and where the person jumped the switch so I can get my window down.Let me know what you guys think the issue might be.Appreciate any help I can get.

I assume that it doesn't work from either the driver switch or the tailgate switch, correct?

Where are yo looking for the interlock safety switch?

To get things rolling, I'm including the wiring diagram.

Good luck,

:)>-

oh I was looking at the bracket underneath the tailgate handle,I didn't see anything else that resembled the safety switch anywhere else in the tailgate

Have you jumpered the motor leads?  If not, that is one of the the first thing I would do just to make sure it functions properly. Put the Plus lead to one motor lead and Minus to the other motor lead and then reverse the leads to reverse the direction of the motor.  (Do this with the motor mounted)

If that works, try pushing in on the left side of the tailgate while you operate the tailgate switch. If that works you need to adjust the latch.

If that doesn't work, jumper out the latch safety switch which is located in the left hand tailgate latch. A little hard to get at but doable.

NOTE: the ground for the motor goes through the driver switch.  The driver switch must be in the center position for the tailgate switch to work. (Also, the wires from front to back do double duty.  Either lead can be (+) while the other is (-) when operating the tailgate from the driver switch.  Both serve as grounds when operating the window from the tailgate switch.)

Points of failure may be any connector in the front to back path.  Corroded connections, broken leads (where the cable flexes, or corroded and broken at the connector).  A prime offender of corroded leads is the connector just behind the left side of the rear bumper on the rear cross member.

Good luck,

:)>-

yo Rog,

Since Seabronc isn't here now,

the interlock safety switch is inside TG on driver's side latch area; try pushing hard in that area to see if glass will move w/key or cab switch

They moved the switch to the left hand latch years ago but didn't redesign the handle hardware.

well that makes more sense but it definitely is going to be a b***h to get to and the trim on the outside needs to be replaced and it raining like crazy in st. louis and water dripping everywhere on inside of tailgate.I getting ready to order new window trim from lmc truck.but wires don't seem bad anywhere else like where the 2 wires clip to the window and I'm guessing that is what triggers it going up and down.I think I'll grab a tarp and throw it over the back of the truck because it is suppose to rain the rest of the week.

The wires on the window are for the rear window defroster.  The motor leads run along the bottom of the tailgate just at the edge of the access panel, (red and Yellow).

Print the electrical diagrams to look at while troubleshooting.   Also print the 5th post above this one.

Does anyone know where I can find a suitable dual polarity switch to wire into my dash so I can roll the tailgate window up and down.... Everywhere I look no one can find anything suitable...

That is a special switch that is not generally available.  It was made specifically for the Bronco window.  Your best option is to go to a local auto recycler and take one out of a truck there.  You may be lucky in getting one from a Ford dealer.  If the parts guy is a good one, he will do a parts search to find one.  Their system will tell them if any dealer in the US has one in their inventory.  You may also put a post in the, "Parts For Sale or Wanted" forum. Please read the instructions at the top of that forum.

In the future, please start you own thread.

Good luck,

:)>-
