94 Bronco 5.0 Stroker

I am wanting more power.  The sensiable thing to do would be a bigger motor.  Dont really want to find a different motor but would rather use the motor I have.  I have an E.F.I. 5.0 motor and stroking it would be my best option.  I have done the same to my 67 mustang with a 302 in it and was very happy with the results.  Being same block so no clearence issues. Now with the bronco its electronic and there are all these sensors and things.  What would i need to be prepared to replace and adjust for the stroked motor.  Mainly computer settings: Timing, air/fuel mixture, O2 sensors. 

Would it be just easier to find a 5.7 and get the matching computer for it and do a straight swap or is a stroked EFI doable?

Hey Grizz,

I don't see why a stroked 5.0 EFI would not be possible, save for the room for the crank throw.  The question I have would be why.  There are bigger gains when adding cubes to the old engines because they were so inefficient.

Adding a longer stroke to a EFI engine would not bring up problems with things like , air/fuel ratio ( it's always being monitored by the ECU), same with the O2 and other sensors. What you haven't done is improve cam, valves, intake, and exhaust to help the cylinders breathe that extra air they want. If you improved those areas you may find you have no need to add longer stroke.

Broncos are different from sport cars, in they are heavier, and take more torque to move, and are generally geared lower. Point being what you spend in $ and time stroking the motor may be better spent improving the breathing of the 5.0 you have.  

I know it sounds like I'm raining on your parade. I just think it would be more prudent to spend money on the other things first.

Good Luck with whatever you choose.  I have to admit it would be intriguing to know the  results, especially before and after on a dyno.

I have all those in mind with the stroke.  I guess I was going for the all or nothing approach.  I did the same kind of thing with the 67.  better cam, intake, exhaust and carb.  Eventually going to the longer stroke. I understand what your saying about the wieght to power.  I am looking for the torque.  My other idea i had would be a diesel motor.  right now the bronco is my daily so logically i should start from the cheapist and work up.  I guess i was more curious if it was possiable on an EFI motor.  I prefer vehicles without computers so the idea of more power i thought could raise more problems with an electronic motor.

I see no problem if you keep the same intake manifold, ignition setup, and just change the internals. The ECUs perimeters may need a slight reset, but a good tuning programmer can handle that.

I just don't know for sure that the block can accommodate much of a longer stroke, ( you didn't say how long you wanted to go)

Maybe someone else here can enlighten us on that note.
