I'm a new member here and am about to buy my first early model bronco. I've owned an 85 bronco II, 87 bronco II, 86 full size and 93 full size and am currently driving a 97 explorer. So needless to say I love broncos.

I found a potential gem or maybe **** and would like some of your opinions on price. It's a 71 with what I am guessing is a 302 with a 3 speed transmission, column shift. I'll try to get some pictures up if I can figure it out. The body appears to have little to no rust. It does not have a top. He claims that it runs but is having ignition issues right now. He wants $3000 for it. Do you think it's worth that? What should I check for when I go to look at it?

I think it's worth it....  It's not a STEAL!!! by any measure, but if the frame and body are anywhere close to sound it would make a good platform for a project....

If it's ignition, spend the $100 and buy a Pertronix to get rid of the points and it should run....  I am a sucker for Bronco's so everything sounds like a good deal to me!!!

Hey ETC, welcome.

That Bronc is a project as genthree stated above.  I see 3K as a bit high, but that's my opinion for my area.  Be prepared to spend some time sorting it out. It has been hammered on before. That rat's nest of wires under the hood indicates that the PO was not one for clean, organized work.

That said it could be a solid ride.   Good Luck with whatever you choose.

Initially, YES, it's worth 3K..!

However, it depends on your knowledge/experience, patience, and "wallet".

Even if you had to put 10K (high est.) into it..., you'd still be "above water"

(Assuming you do most of the work yourself.)

A diamond in the rough would be a better discription.

What should I check for when I go to look at it?

Really no diff. than any other vehicle.

Brakes, drivetrain (trannie/transf., dr. shafts), steering, electrical, frame damage, instrument cluster function, etc.

The eng. may have more issues than just ignition.

Take notes or mental notes as to any obvious issues needing priority attention.

Might want to stay close to Genthree, he just went thru all this with his rig & it's look'n GOOD..!!
