1968 Ludnuts Bronco Build

Well, I just inherited a 1968. 3 in the tree. cut rear fender. 93k miles (if i remember correctly) and engine rebuild 10k miles ago.
 
 
and well, I'm more of a Jeep guy. so bare with me as I'm broadening my knowledge as much as possible. so any info you guys can give i would appreciate it!
 
purpose of build: be just a good looking cruiser to get to and from the fishing hole that is safe.
 
so what I'm looking to upgrade:
bushwacker fenders
clean up interior
raptor line bed line floors
audio system (speakers, amp, small sub, would love to keep the stock head unit, but will see what needs to be done)
33s maybe, most likely 31s (i wanted to throw my jeeps 37s on there, but it won't fit in the garage otherwise)
black wheels
power steering
better brakes
new suspension
paint job (thinking bright orange)
new headlights
i have extra LED lights i might throw on there
debating on bumpers, don't want anything crazy. so might just clean these up and leave them.
 
want to try and keep it as classic looking as possible, but still look "new"
 
(in the future i will update engine and transmission)

Good starter rig..!!

With the mechanical in good shape, this rig will take you where you want to go.

(That Ford 9" under there is often used in dragsters.)

Larger tires req. diff. gear changes.

P/S is easy.

Brakes stop on a dime if with-in spec.

That rig looks to be in darn good shape for it's age.  I would think it's a perfect platform for a restoration.  It's a shame to cut or modify these rare old vehicles when they are in such good shape.

But it's yours...good luck with whatever you decide to do with her.

so, I'm going to be doing video updates and installs of parts along the way. so with that being said,

Don't know why you'd change the axles... they're bullet proof for what you're going to do.

What do you mean change the fenders...?  The metal is THICK & can be treated, sealed, patched.

Did you look under the rubber floor mats..?  That metal may just need some TLC.

Looking at the dash, it's CHERRY.., so are the seats, (totally rebuildable with foam & stock covers if needed)

the grill, the hood, the bumpers, etc.

The column shifts usually get sticky..., a 3sp floor shifter would cure that.., easy to install & work great.

Heater & console may need to go.... /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />  /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

one of the biggest things i want to do is throw a floor shifter in there. and recommendations? new engine and tranny will be in, but thats a few years from now. i see you have the hurst 3 speed. any issues with it? didn't realize kits were only like $300-500.

and new fenders, because 1. bushwhacker is a sponsor of mine so they offered to help with this build. but 2. the aftermarket rear fenders they put on, are cracked. and instead of repairing those, might as well just replace them.

and, I'm considering throwing my jeeps axles under here, because they already have upgraded disc brakes, good gears, lockers and are strong. ill just weld on some new mounts and call it a day.

and I'm not sure on floor board situation, haven't pulled it yet. (haven't been back to work on bronco in a couple weeks) but I'm sure they are fine, since 98% of the rig is rust free. minor typical surface rust here and there, but nothing structurally wrong.

and what you don't like the school bus heater! lol that thing cranks heat out like no other.

Location makes a diff. on some of these issues.

All the EB stores have GOOD floor shifter kits. (James Duff, Hurst, etc.)

You'll have to change the rods when you go to a V/8

My shifter was in this rig when I bought it... I'm guessing it's 25-30 yrs. runn'n

& still works like new.      

   I think you're refering to the fender "flares" not the "fenders"

Keep in mind, & as you may know, for every one change.., 3 more now needed changes will raise their ugly heads..!!

bushwacker flares are on.
 
grill is coming off tomorrow to get repainted.
bumpers are gonna come off to get cleaned up and polished.
currently have the hub caps off to clean them up right now.

been out of town for a while so haven't done much. shined the stock hub caps and bumpers.

 
looking at picking up a bikini top this weekend. and looking at putting some new tires on. 32s or 33s.

Nice looking rig!  Now that time has passed, what are the final plans?
