yo,

IN CASE my PM reply to you did not go thru

yo,

For now; I have a doc appointment this afternoon;

There is a possibility of a bad ignition switch, but it needs to be tested first.

see Logic Table in:

Lock Cylinder Adjustment & Switch Pin-Out Diagram & Continuity Testing (Logic Tables) in an 83; "...The following proceedure is from the 1983 Ford Service manual, with a few minor wording changes, but should work for any year. Also included are a couple of illustrations from the same proceedure to help you visualize it..."

Ignition Actuator rod is sticking. Might be broken,

It runs from the top of the steering column down to the IGN switch, put your hand on that rod and see if it moves when you turn the key.

Replacing the actuators is a PITA, even though the parts are cheap & easy-to-find at parts stores for ~$20ea. Call your local used car lots & independent repair shops for the number of a local steering column specialist. If he'll rebuild the column for less than $120, pay him.   read more
