Hi

I have a 1988 bronco with c6 trans init that's bad, I was wondering if I could swap it out for an older  good working 1970 c6 trans that is non4wd. to do so what will I need?

Can I just swap out the tail shaft and tail housing from one to the other?

Thanks

Can't think of any reason why not, as long as the bell housing is for a small block engine like the 300, 302 or 351W.  Perhaps Bully Bob or someone else more familiar with the older trucks will have some input.

Thanks

Yep.., as shown below, I've tinkered with some drive-trains.

(shown is a V/8 bell, 3sp. trannie, adaptor, & Dana 20)

I can tell you it's not for the faint of heart..!!  These units seperated are NOT light. And when all bolted

together, REALLY heavy.

Be it stick or auto trans..., this can be dangerous soooo, the correct tools are needed.

Such as a transmission jack.

What I'm not sure about is;   the '88 has computer input doesn't it..?  The '70 would not.

One point: when seperating Dana 20 from adaptor.., roller bearings will fall into case.

No biggie, you can fish them out with a magnet (I think there's 13) & stick them in place

with grease upon reassembly.

Thanks for all info I did quite few trans swap before with 4x4 so I know this is going to be  heavy weight and I do have the proper tool also.as far I can see right now my trans only has wires for shift nothing else  until I put it up in the air to take a closer look but so far its  not computer controlled. But I find out when I will remove it and see what I'm up against.

Thanks for all the info
