Hey, I am wanting to upgrade the gears in my 1979 Ford Bronco, but I guess I don't know what splines I have in my bronco. They're both original axles I think... Ford 9" in the rear and a Dana 44 up front. So if anyone can just tell me what they should be I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the help.

Likely stock 28 spline on the 9"  but there's no way to be sure that a PO did/didn't changed things.

However, it's simple to pull a rear axle & count the splines.

Stock D44 has 30 spline (---correction---) 20 spline (I THINK). Not sure if you can count the splines with the cover off the diff.

but that might be the only way to prove W/O pulling a front axle.  (a bit more work than a rear axle)

Happened to look at my spare front axleshaft.  Counted 20 splines..., & 99% sure the D-44 is the same stock.

(This spare is the "outer axle" that the hub locks on to)

(The inner axle that engages the diff. is likely 20 spline as well)

30 Splines are used on the upgraded (outer) axles.., mostly for hard-core rock crawlers, etc.
