Does anyone know the correct idle for the rig? I have tried adjusting the carburetor to make sure it isn't running too rich or lean. Just can't seem to get it correct. Right now while in park it is running at 1250 RPMs, and while in drive its right about 750-800 RPMs.

If memory serves.., that's a stock two barrel...?

First, adj. the "IDLE" ***** out some to drop the RPM's. Lower the idle to about 900 rpm.

Then.., work the "two" mixture screws (lower front of carb) (starting at 2 1/2 turns out) in-n-out until you get the highest RPM.

Then re-set the idle ***** to 900 rpm. (I think that's the req. speed for an automatic trans)

-or- at a speed where it doesn't stall the eng. when put in gear.

The above should be done with the engine warmed up & the choke off or the auto choke relaxed/off.

It has an aftermarket Edelbrock carb on it. I only see the two front screws on it. Not sure which is the idle *****. Sorry, really don't know much about the carburetors.

Both front screws are idle "mixture" screws used to create a "smooth" idle.

(these screws alter the idle speed a slight amount only--- not meant to set the idle speed)

Somewhere (on most all carbs) is a ***** located on the side of the carb as part of the throttle linkage.

This ***** pushes against a cam shaped (or notched) oblong washer, or just a flat spot.

This ***** sets the stop point of the throttle butterfly inside the carb throat.

Backing this ***** out  will drop the idle speed.

Having said that.., if you didn't, re-check the timing with a timing light..., sometimes with  a new

T-chain-n-gear set..., the timing will move.  Too much "advance" will raise the idle speed as well.

I would suggest you go to a book store and get a book on Edelbrock carbs.  Here is a couple of links to YouTube that will be a help,

It is very similar to adjusting a Holley but as far as I'm concerned a whole lot simpler.  There are a whole lot more videos on YouTube so enjoy.

Good luck,

:)>-
