I am getting everything put back together, but having trouble getting belts tight enough. Is there a certain way this needs to be done?

The belts have a specific tension req. but almost no one does this.

For the alt. leave the lock down bolts slightly loose. Then with a skinny length of wood.., wedge-n-pry the alt.

outward somewhat then lock the bolts down while holding the pressure.

A rule-of-thumb is try to move the alt. fan/fins by hand.

If, with lots of strength, you can get a slight movement.., you're OK. You don't want it sooo tight that it damages the bearings.

Whatever you pry with.., don't damage anything on the eng. bock. (a metal bar or screwdriver can be

used to pry but may need padding to protect things.)

Same for the P/S pump however, don't pry against the pump tank..., this could dent it &/or cause a leak.

No test here but you should be able to move the belt up-n-down approx. 1/2 to 3/4 inch.

If the belts are new.., check them again in a few hrs. of run time.

If possible..,  having a helper hold tension helps.
