I bought a set of RCM trail doors for my '74. To mount them I have to disassemble the hinges and use only the inside hinge (that bolts to the body). Only problem is I can't get the hinge pins out. I've used a punch and heavy shop hammer and they won't budge. I don't want to heat them because the hinges are painted. Any suggestions?

Yep.., you may want to try PB Blaster or the like. And, good your careful with the "wack'n". Too much can crack or otherwise damage the sheetmetal. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Gett'n the hinge screws out is yet another "hair puller" but, if you can get them out..., it may be easier to work the hinge pin.

At the end of the day.., the paint may have to be sacrificed. ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

General rule.., any of that type of work req. soaking with break-away ****.

Well, the hinges are sitting on the work bench, so I don't (yet) have any endangered sheet metal. I just can't seem to make any headway on the pin removal. I know they're knurled just below the head for retention in the hinge, but they're in their tight!

Had the same (tight) prob. knocking my U-joints out of my front axles.

I used a thick/flat chunk of steel (on the floor) with a hole in it slightly larger than the yoke hole. A few good wacks with a hammer & a large driver, & WA-LA..!!
