My '74 Bronco Headlights and Marker lights are cutting out while I'm driving down the road at highway speed. Looking for some ideas as to what may be wrong.

-The lights flicker then cut out after I've been driving for 15+ minutes. If I stop for a few minutes, the lights come back on again for a short period then flicker & cut out again.

-Radio works fine.

-License plate light stays on, works fine.

-Wipers & heater work fine.

Pls let me know if you have any ideas . . . what is wrong? Thx.

Heya!

Sounds to me like it's a electrical issue. Check all wirings for the headlights, the manual for your truck will provide a diagram. Make sure the insulation is still intact and not contacting the body or a ground. Not much else I can say, start from the power side of the circuit and work your way to the ground to find the problem. Good luck!

Hi Whooah, welcome..!

What Rampage said....! I would add there's 3 wires to ea. headlight. 1ea. hi & lo beam.., & one ground that goes (with sheetmetal screws) to the rad. support. Those screws can work loose. :glare:

Another common culprit is the "hi beam switch" on the floor. They get dirty &/or the wires work loose. The connectors are accessable in the dr. side wheel well. :-B

Did you check tail lights when this happens..? If they also drop.., it could be the light switch itself. -Or- the connectors to it.

Thanks all. Turns out the headlight switch is bad as all lights dropped during failure. Ordered a switch from Jeff's Graveyard and the H4 Composite Headlamp set from Duff's since it's a great upgrade with relays.
