Hi,

I was researching on the web about clogged oil pump screens, pumps, etc. I came across these two answers on how to resolve the prob without having to drop the oil pan (PITA, and trying to avoid it). These responses seem very sketchy at best. Anyone have a comment as to whether these methods would be safe and might possibly work? (The first one doesn't seem too bad...):

"Technican: Hi; You can try this and about 70% of the time it does. Empty out all the oil and reinstall the drain plug. Fill up the oil pan with a gallon of mineral spirits. " DO NOT START THE ENGINE ". Let sit overnight. Drain all the mineral spirits from it. Buy about two quarts of real cheap oil. Pour it in and let sit for about 1 hour. Drain it again. Put your regular oil in and let idle for about 1 hour. If this does not fix it you will have to pull the motor and replace the pump and screen. . "

"Technican: there is a way of cleaning out your oil cooling system that works well put in a gallon of diesel fuel in the engine and run your car for a half hour.this will thin the oil out and clear the portsI know this will do the trick you should never have to pull the oil pump. I hope this helps"

both work, but how old is your engine? If you do the second one you can wash all kinds of sludge down into your oil pan, clog your pump and blow your engine if you are not careful. The first one is safer. A litre of ATF fluid works too.

I'd just pull the fricken engine (5 hours max) and do the pan and pump (correctly), plus all those other stupid, hard to-get-to things that need to be dealt with. It's a perfect opportunity to not only get to know your engine intimately, but you'd be amazed at how much beneficial crap you can get done for dirt cheap (vac hoses, PCV valve hose/relocating, EGR hoses and clamps, fuel injector service, secondary fuel pump, sensors, t-stat, all those weird water lines and electrical connections, rear engine seal)---ad f'ng nauseum.......

Take it from a guy who replaced an entire #8 piston/rod/bearing/ring assembly with the engine IN the truck. Trust me, it was not fun.......

and think of this ??

if oil pump swap tube is clog the screen filter doing it job

but if you desolve it may go in the pump / major promb

like ricky b say/s

pull engine out

puul pan and valve cover

if engine old or noisy smoke ect sure go 4 it

if you're problem is loss of oil pressure when hot may not be the pump

worn down rear crank bearing lossing oil pressure

just pull the motor and do it right like they say unless you wanna go buy a new motor..then your spending time and more $$ for 30 bucks may turn into 3k.

just keep that in mind
