I wanted a good old type handheld spotlight that I could put a 100W aircraft bulb in. It's hard, if not impossible, to find those any more, except for good ol' eBay. I got one (probably from the '60s) in the other day & it has a real funky cigarette lighter type of plug / adapter over a bayonet bulb type of plug, you know, like tail lights & the like use. I think I remember seeing in an old truck or Jeep a long time ago a socket in the dash that looked like a bayonet bulb socket & was labeled 'spotlight'. I started to change the plug to a regular accesory plug but then decided to leave it original, especially since I was trading the 30W bulb for a 100W bulb anyway. I scrounged around in my shop & found a socket that I'll mount either in or under the dash. Anyway, this got me to wondering, way back when, were handheld spotlights all equipped with this plug & were they fairly specific to this socket or what? If this was peculiar to handheld lights, why did they use this plug??? Any of you old timers know? Thanks.

Maybe look into an HID spotlight? That is brighter than any 100 watt bulb... When I priced one, it was about $80-120 and had a rechargable battery.

I don't know the numbers for spotlights as every reflector design is different...

however,
HID bulbs last 5 times longer than hologen
HID bulbs are 3 times brighter than hologen
HID bulbs run at 35 watts power vs 55/65/85/100 watt bulbs
HID bulbs run at 3.2 amps off a 12 volt system
HID bulbs come in different colors, from bright yellow, to purple. However 6000k is quite popular with bright white/hint of blue

..Hence why I run an HID kit in all my vehicles. My girlfriend just had me put some in her car..before it looked like she had just fog lights on. Now she can see street signs lit up, and the whole road. Never been flashed either :)
