i have a 95 full size , if i put the peddle to the floor it wont rev over 3500 and pops thru the intake. if i dont put it to the floor it will rev like normal. after this problem started i gave it a complete tune up but it still does this. its not showing any TDC'S. im out of ideas. down to thinking that it may have a clogged cat converter.does any body have an idea on this matter? any help i can get will be greatly appreciated

well i finaly got a vacuum gauge and tried that, tried it on 3 different motors, the bronco had 17 inch pounds at idle and lost 3 inch pounds at 2500 rpm, my s-10 lost 1 inch pound and my camaro gained 4 inch pounds. the s-10 and camaro run perfect. so im not sure if that is a good way to test but will cut a hole in front of the cat and see if that is truly the problem

yo; before you open it up; how about removing it?
aww. I can't see your year info in reply mode!
On my 96 I have basically 2 cats; a reduction & oxidation -
Use PB Bl;aster; etc. liberally on all fittings for O2 sensor, air tube, and clamps (the muffler clamp came off ezily on my 96 2 weeks ago! after 14 years and 2 months on it!
Here is a pic showing some of the fittings by Steve83

some more vac gauge test info;
"...The easiest test for converter plugging is done with a vacuum gauge. Connect the gauge to a source of intake vacuum on the intake manifold, carburetor or throttle body. Note the reading at idle, then raise and hold engine speed at 2,500. The needle will drop when you first open the throttle, but should then rise and stabilize. If the vacuum reading starts to drop, pressure may be backing up in the exhaust system....If there appears to be an exhaust restriction, disconnect the exhaust pipe (MIESK5 NOTE; or Muffler) just aft of the converter to relieve pressure and recheck the readings. CAUTION: The pipes will be hot so wait awhile for things to cool down. If vacuum goes up and/or backpressure drops, the problem isn't not a plugged converter but a plugged muffler or collapsed pipe. If there's little or no change in readings, the converter is plugged..."

"...You may also take the converter off the vehicle and check it for damage or clogging. Shining a flashlight into the core of a honeycomb style converter will reveal whether the honeycomb is partially clogged, damaged, or loose from the edges...."

I seriously doubt its the cats. I looked this morning at the vacuum gauge i have installed in my truck and my readings were pretty much the same. If its only at wide open throttle, but will rev through the power band at anything less, it sounds more like either a faulty TPS, or a lack of fuel. Reading codes is a great help sometimes, but just because the ECM doesn't throw one, doesn't mean a sensor is not bad. If you can get acess to a scanner that will read a data stream, it will be a big help. I know not everyone has acess to these things, but you would be surprised at how many sensors will act up, and the vehicles computer doesn't pick up on it. Especially pre OBD-II.
Almost anything can be fixed with a little know how, a case of beer, a roll of gorilla tape, and a really BIG hammer.
