my 79 had her oil drained and changed by my dad. he poured 15w-40 and started her only to find she began to smoke and knock so he gave her a "no smoke" treatment and that hel the knockingand smoking, after a week of driving i went to use her one morning and she wouldn't stay on. she missfired and had absolutely no power, it couldn't even stay on at idle. we tuned the carb and dialed the ignition to try and find ot but nothing. what do you guys advise i should do? i personally don't plan to rebuild the engine. i was considering a swap for either a modern "windsor" type 351 or a 302, what do you say? my only concern is if the tranny bolt pattern fits the windsor block and the engine mounts fitting on my frame, any ideas?

The 351 windsor and the 302 have a different bell housing than a 351/400m. A bolt up it will not be. Everything is different. Does it still make a knocking sound? To me it sounds like a collapsed lifter and or also a bad oil pump. I know on my truck I changed the oil once and used a fram oil filter and I had no oil pressure. I changed it back to a K & N and I have no problems now.. I'm not sure if that helps or not but I tried.
