1973 Bronco's had a unique fuel systems with return fuel lines from the fuel pump. On my 1973 the fuel tank switch needs to be replaced along with the aux. tank sending unit. However, no after market 1973 reproduction fuel switches and sending units are available with the return fuel lines.

I am considering the following solution; 1) install a return line on a new sending unit, 2) joining the return fuels lines together (aux & rear tank) through a 'T' and bypass the the fuel switch, 3) fuel switch would only have the primary fuel lines. What are the implications of using this solution? Does someone with a 73 Bronco find an alternative solution (ie move to electic fuel pump)?

03-21-09....Thanks for the feedback. The vehicle is stock from bumper to bumper. Under the hood is a 302 married to a C4 transmission. With the introduction of the 1973 Bronco, Ford Motor Company began messing with the emissions by installing return fuel lines and carbon canister.

GEEEESE..!
That rig must have been built in Germany.... :o
Freak'n amazing.....I've not seen such a set-up..?

HOWEVER..., I'm guessing there's a poss. of over flowing a tank with the following;
".....joining the return fuels lines together (aux & rear tank) through a 'T"

I too am int. in seeing the options here. (I know what I'd do)

May want to tell folks what's there., under the hood., etc. for more accurate help. B)

the only EBs I have seen with a return to the tanks are EFI conversions. The mechanical pump & carb don't have a way to return fuel to the tanks. I am am a little confused...do you have a stock engine or a fuel injected one?

I have seen pics of the fuel return setup on another bronco site a few months ago, the owner was also having the same problem as you finding a replacement switch. I'm not sure what his solutions was, but I'll try to find out.

Ok, now that I have seen it, I know what it is. I saw a brand new one of those selectors in the box about 2 months ago. The guy who has it owns an EB junkyard with around 80 EBs in it and said it was for a truck with dual tanks. How to fix it? You got me. If you want more info, PM me & I will give you the guy's phone number here in Colo. Springs. He is one of the most knowledgable EB guy I have ever come across, including all the vendors, and could probably tell you how to fix it.

After fighting the '88 tank selector valve that I originally installed on my friend's '75 (with '88 5.0L/AOD), I recently swapped in a pair of common 3-port fuel switching valves from NAPA, and they work perfectly. A flick of the switch on the dash (no cranking on a valve) and he's running on the other tank.

Steve83,

Thanks for the feedback. I did check into a 3 port fuel switch as option. NAPA appeared to be the most reasonable in price. I elected to go with a stock 3 port switch that I found from a contact Colorado.
