I am trying to pull the axle seal (Ford 9" with drum brakes) to replace it since I replaced the wheel bearings already. I bought an axle puller that just seems to be a joke at this point b/c it is doing absolutely nothing. I am going "by the book" with my differentials book, but the darn book glazes over this step and simply says either use the axle puller or use the end of your axle (either of which would not work on these seals). Then the book says to use RTV sealant when installing the seal back so I'm thinking thats what the last guy did on this seal, so does that mean I will need to break the seal free of the sealant?
Any help is much appreciated.

from what I know on Diesel trucks, I remove the sealant prior to installing a new gasket then replace the gasket and REseal whatever it needs to be sealed (motor components to headlights basically) hope it helps man, try looking it up online, things are sure to pop up!

Any prybar or large screwdriver will do. Doesn't matter if you destroy the old seal.
Just be careful not to scratch the seat.
Using sealant helps (when installing new seal) should there already be some scratches.
