I bought a very clean 1989 B2 2.9 auto for $1000, the problem is it has a lifter noise (all the time). Also after I drive it

for a while the oil pressure guage flickers rapidly from normal to zero when its in gear with the brakes on. (like at a stop

light ) If I shift into park the pressure goes back up. It only does this when it has run for 15-20 minutes. I have flushed

the engine with engine flush that didn't seem to help. should I change the oil pump? or is this engine a lost cause?

anyone else experience these problems?

hi, your problem may not be you motor although im not for certain. one thing i do know is in my 87 FSB my oil pressure gauge flickers wildly when im going down the road and sometimes at idle. i got it checked out and i found that the pressure and motor is good but the gauge itself wasnt. try a manual gauge that hooks into back of motor and see if it stays steady then

Do the manual guage check as ****** suggested. However with the lifters always ticking, the chances are that the oil preasure is too low, ( pump /and or main bearings) or the lifters and rockers are worn, or all that.

How many miles on the rig? Is it a daily driver? What do you want to use it for?

It may or may not be worth putting any time or money into.

I have nursed low buck rides with almost no oil preasure through months, by runnning heavy weight oil, and even adding some 90 weight to the crankcase. They weren't pretty, but got me where I wanted to go. Then I sold them for what I could get, but I did tell the buyer of the problem.

Good Luck
