Hi All,

My ABS light keeps coming on - almost always when my ABS kicks in when I stop too fast on snow. It also shuts off after a few starts. I took it to a shop, they pulled the code for me. 63 - (Pump motor triggered but did not run). The brakes seem to work fine but I do have more pedal travel lately. I also had to add some fluid recently (about half to three quarters of a bottle). I've looked and so did the shop for leaks etc but could find no culprit. The pads seem to be good, so I can't figure out why I have extra pedal travel and had to add fluid. I'm wondering if the code, pedal travel, and low fluid are related. Does anyone have experience with similar problems?

Might be a problem with the vacuum booster. Sometimes when the booster fails the internal diaphram tears and fluid from the MC gets in there. If you're losing fluid and the rest of the systems is tight & dry then chances are good that it's leaked into the booster. A bad booster would also account for the extra pedal travel.

Great advice - I'll check it out and get back. Thanks for the reply.

Bidibronco,
I'm gonna jump in here before any one else does and say that a soft pedal may be related to air in the lines, and that they need to be bled.

with the extra travel and AWOL brake fluid, its possible that your losing fluid out the back seals of your master cylinder into the booster. that might account for the ABS light but not sure.
