I put this in the general topics , maybe I should have put it here .
Hi , I was replacing an oil seal and bearing in my 95 bronco .
The alignment for the pin got off alittle some way and when I
put the axle back in I turned it to try to line the holes back up
and both spider gears fell out . Does anyone know the technic
for putting them back in or will I have to take the whole differential
out to replace them . Its a pos unit semi floating from what I can tell .

I hope this will help you. Since no one has responded, I took a look at the shop manual for my 1983 Bronco, (keep in mind I have never had to do this and it is offered as a best can do). I am assuming you are talking about the two gears that the removable shaft hold in place and that is itself held in place by a lock bolt. According to my manual, after installing the axle shafts and replacing the C-lock back on the shaft, then position the differential sub-assembly so the shaft hole is pointing at you so will be able to slide the shaft into the hole and insert the lock bolt. Then set the two gears and their thrust washers in place one on top and one on the bottom and while holding them there, (180 degrees apart), move them into position. Position the shaft through the gears and install the lock bolt using some blue Loctite on the threads and tighten it to 15-30 ft. lb.

You are dead on seabronc, i've been trying to get him on chat since yesterday to go through it in detail, but all I have is from memory so I wanted to talk to him directly. Your pictures sum it up perfectly. I do believe he is talking about the side gears but you have it nailed

I just read the page thoroughly and it makes reference to an o'ring on the axle, I have never seen this o'ring. Now I want to tear one apart and see.

I'm sorry I missed you in chat I was in and out all day . I will try this today . I think my problem
was I was putting in one gear then trying to put in the other one which seemed to be impossible .
I appreciate the help and I'll post later on how it went .

Well I still don't have the gears installed . My differential has something that
the picture doesn't show . It has a flat S shaped spring between the axle gears
that is right in the way of putting the gears in like the picture shows . Is anybody
familiar with what I'm talking about and know a way around that ? I do appreciate
the help .

That sounds like a limited slip differential. I will have to wait till I get home tonight to see if I have a procedure for it. I believe you have to take it out, but wait till someone confirms that.

I used to have one of those units in my 86 B2. They're a clutch type limited slip diff, and the s spring IS a pain in the ass, but i believe if you take out the locking pin (be VERY VERY careful with the retaining bolt, it's tiny) you can put the gears in, then the spring, and finally the retaining bolt and be on your way.
they are a bit tedious though

I've been trying to post for a couple of days but kept getting some kind
of data base error . Anyway with the help from here I fianlly got the gears
in and everything back together . I appreciate the help .
