i have a mostly stock 71 besides the c4 and i want to replace my shot c4 with a stock 3 speed manual. i was wondering if i could use one from a 6cyl behind my 302. do i need a v8 bell housing and will that bellhousing fit a 6cyl trans? do i need different drive shafts? and does it matter if its a RAT or a RAN? and would you suddgest rebuilding a used one?

No....you will need all V/8 parts fr. the flywheel/clutch/bellhousing back....including the adaptor & starter. ----------(& of course., the pedal assy. under dash., & push-rod/bellcrank assy. on the frame) ---- You can use any D-20 transfer & it will all line up as the adaptor is diff. Dr. shafts should be fine. You'll need a 3sp. floor shifter. Rat/Ran are the same, except for gear ratio, as I recall. (2 diff. lengths on the adaptor though) Toms & Wild Horses have all parts (used) needed....as do JBG & the other EB parts houses. ----TIP while apart.., (trannie/transf/adaptor) there's some roller bearings (large needle) that can fall into the cases if your not careful. No biggie...just something to be aware of. Tranny is re-buildable...but best to have a manual to guide you. Whats your location, I'll be doing my 5 spd conversion soon and will be getting rid of my 3 spd (bell/trans/adapt).
